And just like that, we reached December. The beginning of the end of this profound year. Most would agree how the days have been long, but the year itself, quite short. Christmas time here still does not feel the same, 2 years since the pandemic broke out. Unti-unting nagsusubok ang panahon, na ibalik ang dating sigla. May Christmas songs naman na tumutugtog na ulit sa mga mall. Traffic na ulit. However, for so many, this will be the first Christmas without the loved ones lost during the pandemic’s second wave. This is also the time when all the friction, pain and misunderstandings carried over from 2020, fully sinks in. Plenty of hearts are still drowning in the aftermath. We all try to get lost in the holiday spirit, but the truth is, underneath all the new found strength, there is still so much grief.
In some ways, this year was more difficult than 2020, at least psychologically. This year was all about picking up the pieces. The storm may be over, but this was the year where we truly saw the extent of the damage. This year was when we knew exactly why we needed the strength that we prayed for, back then when everything was still falling apart. This was all about willing yourself to stand back up again after the loss of death, sickness, hunger, bankruptcy, losing a job, breakdown of a family, to name a few crosses. This was all about trying to incorporate our lives with a global pandemic that killed millions, and not having a choice in the matter.
However, in spite of all this, there is an unmistakable sense of dignity present. A quiet sense of accomplishment for those who have survived; everyone, from those who have weathered the storms magnificently, to those who are barely making it. Those who are fighting hard to remain afloat, to those who are dutifully soldiering through, against all the odds. I tip my hat, and raise my glass to you!
To make sure that this profound year is consistent, it has to end with a bang – Venus turns retrograde mid month in Capricorn, adding complications to an already complex situation. Venus is conjunct Pluto for most of this time, adding an intensity that cannot be take lightly. Dramatic situations that usually come with Venus retrogrades are amplified, adding texture to the way we exit the year that was 2021.

Eclipses signal in great new beginnings and great new endings. A Solar Eclipse (conjunct MERCURY) happens this month, and the energy may usher in new beginnings in the area of life that it touches. A process of change that started 1.8 years ago is finally wrapping up. One last hit before a well deserved reprieve. Those with planets or points from 7°-17° in mutable signs (GEMINI, VIRGO, SAGITTARIUS, PISCES) can feel this eclipse strongly.
