We’re past the midpoint now in this journey through 2023, and within July is the biggest shift yet. After a period of relative productivity, we enter retrograde season, bringing rugged, confusing starts and stops that are not meant for the faint hearted. We are now passing through the territory of frustrated fire, and yes, it can be as dramatic as it sounds!
A run through of the obstacle course:
The month stars cautiously, relatively easy in relation to where we are heading towards. We start with solid, earth energy with a full moon in wise Capricorn, allowing us to recalibrate areas in our life that need improved structure. Mars enters Virgo shortly after, adding precision and healthy analysis to the way we execute our passions, and more importantly, our decisions.
Now we reach an energetic turning point – Mercury enters Leo, and our minds enter the realm of the Lion’s heart. We push against the practical status quo. We think big and bold: Leo is glamour and brightness, pride and prestige, and we all start seeing the world as a stage, and everyone we encounter, our audience. We think theatrically, and feel deeply, especially since a dramatic new Moon happens shortly after, in the realm of reactive emotion, nurturing Cancer. In the midst of bravado, we start yearning for love and security and everything else that makes us feel safe.
And then the Lunar Nodes change signs.
The Lunar Nodes are points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the ecliptic (the apparent path of the Sun across the sky). There are two nodes: the North Node and the South Node. They are always opposite each other, forming an axis. The North Node represents the future, lessons to learn, and growth. The South Node represents the past, innate abilities, and comfort zones. The Lunar Nodes move through the signs backward through the zodiac. They stay in each sign and its opposite for about 18.5 months, a smaller cycle under a bigger cycle of 18.5 years, which is the time it takes for them to completely go around the zodiac.
When the nodes change signs, it signals a shift in the collective’s lessons and growth. The themes of the signs that the North and South Nodes transit into become more prominent. The North Node transits into Aries and the South Node into Libra, by mid July, and we are asked to focus on individuality, courage, and action (Aries themes) while moving away from dependence on others, indecisiveness, and people-pleasing (Libra themes). What wakes you up in the morning? What drives you? What are you passions? What is your purpose? These are questions that need to be answered, dear reader.
This also means that the eclipses now happen in Aries and Libra, and where these signs are positioned in our charts is where we are bound to experience great endings, and great beginnings!
In this monumental shift, we are invited and encouraged to be assertive, decisive and courageous. With Aries being the sign of the SELF, Selfishness is an inevitable bi-product, mostly during adjustment period, while the energies are still unrefined and unfamiliar.
In the midst of all this focus on Arian fire, a grand homecoming occurs, igniting more passion and heat: The Sun enters his home sign, majestic Leo, where a brooding, stationary VENUS awaits, turning RETROGRADE exactly 18 minutes after!
